MCM Company, Inc. was sought out by Cleveland Clinic because of our outstanding reputation for developing and building state of the research facilities. The institution’s desire to leverage $8 million in grant funding awarded by the State of Ohio dictated a financing model that blended public/private/institutional dollars provided challenges from the inception of the project. MCM’s skill in working with many different constituent groups was extremely useful during the development, planning and pre-construction phases of the project.

The new building is located between two existing buildings in a 24-hour high-use dock area at the main campus of the downtown facility. Multiple relocations of utilities were necessary as the building is constructed on a vacated street.

The building consists of approximately 120,000 sf of highly efficient, flexible bio-medical research space and 30,000 sf of administrative support space. Although the Cleveland Clinic mandated that many of their campus building standards be incorporated into the building, including interior and exterior finish standards, IT standards and equipment standards, the project team was able to incorporate substitute materials and work with alternate lab casework and equipment to deliver a building that met Cleveland Clinic’s exceptional standards at market-rate.

The project was completed under budget and ahead of schedule. It was the opinion of the former CEO, Dr. Floyd Loop, that the innovative financing model, the project delivery method and the ahead of schedule completion, advanced the Genomics and Stem Cell Research Program at the Cleveland Clinic three years ahead of its competitors.
