Phase 1 was completed in 2002, and featured two new 24-bed cardiac patient nursing units designed using the “universal patient rooms” concept. The patient units were vertically expanded on top of the existing heart institute building while maintaining existing operations.
The project also called for a new ADA accessible Main Entrance Atrium and covered drop-off, Cardiac Catheterization Labs with outpatient Prep-Recovery, and a new ICU in renovated space.
As the Owner’s Representative, MCM Company Inc. was instrumental in coordinating the requirements of the most important feature of the nursing unit plan, the “universal” acuity-adaptable rooms. The rooms are initially being utilized as private, acute care rooms, but have been planned and designed to be easily converted to intensive care or other multiple inpatient diagnosis rooms with minimal modifications.
